Here are some behind the scenes images of the making of the sculpture. The original tiles were modelled using Klean Klay; rubber molds were made that were eventually filled with a cement/sand mixture. A steel frame welded by Daniele Frazier held the sculpture up, giving it the appearance of floating.
Thanks to everyone who assisted me in this 3,000 lb-total endeavor: Daniele Frazier, Rachael LaPolla, Cynthia Chang, Trenton Duerksen, Michael DiPietro, David Johnson, Juliana Mei, and Deb Fisher of Socrates for her advice and help.
